We Veterans are a lively, friendly and well organised body of individuals (over 100 members with handicaps ranging from 6 to 28). We hold competitions on Wednesdays, our club day, throughout the year (winter as well!) and informal roll-ups on Mondays and Fridays. Drinks, light lunch, prize-givings and weekly announcements usually follow. It’s all very sociable. So to join in a roll-up, just turn up by 07.45 in summer (08.15 in winter) and you will be made most welcome.
There are currently 14 named competitions - mostly with trophies, which commemorate past Members. In addition to these events, Medal and Stableford competitions are held throughout the year. Our competitions also include Greensomes, Scrambles and a variety of other formats too. We play off the White Tees and the competition rounds are qualifying, so you can easily maintain a club handicap.
Home and away matches against other Clubs now total 32 and we also have matches played against the main Club and the Ladies and Junior sections. Whatever the format of golf, it is always played in a friendly but competitive manner, and members of all standards enjoy the fun.
In addition to the golf, social events are also important aspects of our programme, both in the clubhouse and external visits. Social evenings with dinner and dancing (to music that most of us can recognise!), plus other entertainment, are enjoyed twice a year. A Golfing Away Day as well as Golfing ‘holidays’ at home and overseas are also enjoyed on a regular basis.
We are a very friendly and informal group where everyone is made to feel welcome– so, if you have reached your magic twilight years come along and join us; you will not regret it.
